Long before I met Andreas Soto, I knew his work. His artwork covered dive lockers, inspired military and commercial divers around the world, and captured the beauty, humor, and soul of the diving community unlike anyone else.

When we eventually met, we became friends. We'd trade ideas, collaborate on projects, and encourage each other to keep creating. Before Instagram had collaborator posts, we had already figured out our own way to share each other's work. That's just how our community operated.

One of my favorite memories was the #GoldFinChallenge. Soto spray-painted his dive fins gold, I shared it with the world, and before long divers everywhere were painting their fins gold too. It was creative, ridiculous, and unforgettable—exactly the kind of impact Soto had on people.
