About us

15 Fathoms was built from a life spent in the water. Founder Thomas McConnell is a former U.S. Navy Diver who served in deep sea salvage operations in Hawaii and underwater ship’s husbandry in San Diego.
While conducting a shaft lamination removal, he sustained a dive-related neurological injury that damaged his inner ear and auditory nerves—bringing that chapter of his career to an abrupt halt. What followed was a period of rebuilding, both personally and professionally.
After returning to San Diego, he began a new chapter as an instructor in maritime operations, training and mentoring the next generation of sailors in underwater systems and operational procedures. Drawing from real-world experience, he continues to contribute to the community in a professional and meaningful way.
Today, 15 Fathoms stands as a reflection of that journey—rooted in the culture of diving, resilience, and the brotherhood shared among those who have served. Proud to be back, and proud to stand alongside a community of active duty and veteran members who continue to carry that legacy forward.
